06-07 Mudbugs (Season Roster)

44-14-6 94pts Northeast Division Champions Governor Cup Champions 5-5-1 in the playoffs
Mudbugs celebrate 10th season with best team winning percentage ever .734 winning their 2nd Governor Cup in team history. Mudbugs allowed the fewest goals in the CHL just 155. Cam Abbott played in only 44 games but tied Mudbugs team record for goals by a rookie with 30 and led the team in goals and power play goals with 14. Cam Abbott won the Rookie of the Year in the CHL. Chris Abbott led team in game winning goals with 8 while brother Cam had 7. Chris Brassard led the team in points with 63 scoring 25 goals second to Cam Abbott. Rookie goalie John DeCaro won Goalie of the Year in CHL with a 23-7-4 record posting a 2.20GAA. It was the 2nd straight year a Mudbugs netminder had won the award. Mudbugs had 5 different players scoring 20 or more goals this season. The Bugs won the Northeast Division for the 4th consecutive year. Congrads!
Mudbugs were voted Hardest Working Team in the CHL once again.

The Bugs make the playoffs for the 9th time in 10 years and face the Thunder in the 1st round for the 3rd straight year. Wichita shocks the Mudbugs in game one as Travis Clayton scores pp goal and a shorthanded goal to lead Thunder to 5-1 win in the CTC. Ryan Fairbarn pp goal was the only shot to beat Jon Horrell who saved 36 of 37.

Thunder take the Mudbugs to double OT before Jason Williamson wins it for Bugs 2-1 to tie series. Jon Horrell was super again stopping 55 of 57 Mudbug shots. John DeCaro stopped 37 of 38 Thunder shots to get the win.

Game three in Wichita Jon Horrell continued to frustrate the Bugs stopping 31 of 32 shots as only Jason Basile pp goal could get past the Thunder wall. Thunder take a 2-1 series lead with a 4-1 win.

Thunder jumped out to 2-0 lead in game four but with 8 seconds left in 1st period Dan Wildfong pp goal gave Mudbugs some confidence as Mudbugs scored 6 unanswered goals to chase Horrell from the net in the 3rd period. Mudbugs win wild one 7-5 to tie series again at 2-2.

For the 2nd time in the series Mudbugs & Thunder go into double OT. Ryan Fairbarn scores game winner as Mudbugs take 3-2 series lead back to Bossier with a 3-2 OT win. Kenny Carroll stops 37 of 39 shots in 5 periods of action in Kansas.

Mudbugs eliminate Thunder with a 4-1 win as Cam Abbott scores a couple.
Northern Conference semi-finals Mudbugs face division rival Memphis who are playing in 2nd round despite losing in 7 games to Blazers in 1st round (see Mulligan rule) Don’t get me started don‘t like this rule.

Game 1- Less than 3 minutes into game Dan Wildfong scores shorthanded and Mudbugs lead 1-0. Derek Landmesser pp goal ties game after 1st period 1-1 but 3 unanswered goals in the 2nd period put Mudbugs in 4-1 hole after 40 minutes. Karlis Zirnis 2 goals in the 3rd the latter with 1:52 left in game give Bugs hope. But Mudbugs fall 4-3 as Memphis holds off a frantic attack on the net in the last 30 seconds.

Game 2- Kevin Schieve stops 32 of 33 Mudbug shots and Memphis wins 4-1. Jason Williamson pp goal was the only Mudbug goal. It was the 3rd time in the 2007 playoffs the Bugs were held to a single goal all three coming with the extra man. The Mudbugs would be in a 0-2 hole for only the 3rd time in their history but the first time ever losing back2back home games in the playoffs.

Game 3- Once again on the road in the 1st period down 2-zip Mudbugs get a spark from late pp goal. Ryan Fairbarn scores with 4 seconds left to cut lead to 2-1. Mudbugs explode for 5 unanswered goals to get huge road win 5-2. Chris Brassard & Jason Basile score 2 goals each as Mudbugs get back into series trailing 2-1.

Game 4- Again Mudbugs fall behind 2-0 after 1st period. Ryan Fairbarn pp goal in 2nd period cuts lead to 2-1. Early in the 3rd another pp goal gives Riverkings 3-1 lead. Cam Abbott pulls Bugs to within a goal again. Travis Banga puts Kings up 2 again miday thru 3rd period. Jason Basile answers 30 seconds later to cut lead to 4-3. Cam Abbott scored a game-tying goal with 2 seconds remaining, but had it wiped out as referee Mark Lemelin never saw the puck over the goal line, at least in time, during a mad scramble near the net.
Instead of OT the Riverkings escape with a 3-1 series lead. Huge loss as Mudbugs lose momentum gained in game 3 plus the opportunity to tie series and maybe a frustrated owner.

Game 5- With just under 4 minutes left Dan Wildfong scores to send game into OT tied 2-2. No doubt on this goal. Darrell Stoddard scored the winning goal for Memphis 12:49 in the overtime period to end the Bugs season with a 3rd loss on home ice to Riverkings.
Memphis becomes the only team to beat Mudbugs 3 times in a series on our ice. Tough way to end a great season.
