Rapid City Wins 4-3 Over Arizona

Posted by: Sabrbug on Feb 06, 2010 CHL News
The Rapid City Rush came away with a 4-3 victory over the Arizona Sundogs on Friday night. Leading the way for the Rush was netminder Miguel Beaudry who made 26 saves for his 12th win of the season.

Jon Pelle also had a strong effort, posting a three-point night, including the game-winning goal. The win marks the 30th of the season for the Rush who remain in control of the Northern Conference.

For the third straight game, the Sundogs scored the opening marker as Marc Belanger netted his 15th of the season. Chad Hinz intercepted a Rush outlet pass and found Belanger at the bottom of the right circle who banked home the one-timer.

Arizona would pick up a two-goal lead for the second straight contest with a goal from Joey Sides at the 2:58 mark of the second. The Rush would finally get on the board 5:55 into the period when Jon Pelle scored his 18th of the season to cut the lead in half. With the puck down low, Scott Wray sent a puck in front that slipped through Doug Groenestege where Pelle had an open net for the tally. Less than two minutes later, the Rush would tie the game when a Brendan Cook shot was stopped, but Brendon Hodge backhanded home the rebound. Later, at the 17:56 mark, the Colt King would tip home a Jon Pelle shot while on the powerplay to give the Rush their first lead of the game.

Rapid City would keep the momentum going into the third period as Pelle scored his second of the game just 25 seconds in. Les Reaney walked into the offensive end and fired a shot that was stopped, but Pelle slid it home to double the lead. With just over three minutes left, Joey Sides made a move past the Rush defense and buried the puck high on the short side to cut the lead in half. Despite an empty net and extra attacker by the Sundogs, Rapid City would hold on for the 4-3 victory.

The Rush were 4-for-4 on the penalty kill while ending the game 1-for-5 on the powerplay. Beaudry stopped 26 of 29 shots to move to 12-6-2 on the season. The Rush are now 4-0-2 on the road trip and remain unbeaten in their last 12 road games. Jon Pelle has scored the game-winner in four of the last five Rush wins and tied for the league-lead in that category.

The Rush conclude their season-long road trip tomorrow evening against the Arizona Sundogs at 7:05pm MST.
