Sebastien Centomo Signs with Jacks'

Posted by: MillerFan on Jul 21, 2009 Hockey News
As they make all of the necessary preparations for a gala 50th Anniversary Season, the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League have achieved even more and greater inroads with their player roster construction in the form of a major goaltending acquisition.

In a major announcement on this date, the Lumberjacks General Manager / Governor Tim Taylor has confirmed that top-flight, pro goaltender SEBASTIEN CENTOMO has assented to terms and affixed his signature to the bottom line on an one-year contract deal with the Muskegon club.

Adhering to club policy, terms of the contract were not dis-closed.

CENTOMO, 28, will be commencing his ninth pro season and his first-ever in the IHL. The 6-1, 196lb backbone backstop will make his Muskegon debut after performing his craft kinetically in the CHL (Central Hockey League) the past four seasons. Most recently, in the 2008-09 CHL season, the Laval, PQ native starred as the number one goal-keeper for the league powerhouse Laredo Bucks where in 39-games, he fashioned a record of 39(20-17-2), posting 2-shutouts, a 2.84 GAA and .906 SPCT. He was especially effective in the OTSO competition, ranked the best in the league with a perfect personified OTSO / SPCT of 1.000 on a brilliant 12/12 mark and flawless 3(3-0-0) standing as the lone unblemished CHL netminder in the extra session.

Through his first eight pro seasons, Centomo has proven to be a goal guardian of masterful winning stripe. In fact, the new Muskegon puck blockade barricade has attained a remarkable seven victorious-laddened campaigns which include significant time in the AHL and ECHL as well.

The Centomo dossier of such accomplishments did not go unnoticed with GM Taylor. "With a 3.92 GAA last season, it was absolutely imperative that we address this crucial area. Thus, a quality goaltender like Sebastien was very high on our off-season priority list. He has performed at the highest levels of pro hockey and that experience is invaluable to us. Sebastien has played to rave reviews wherever he has been."

A former three-year standout in the major junior ‘A' QMJHL, Centomo actually launched his big-time pro playing career in the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs organization with the Leafs primary AHL affiliate, the St. John's Maple Leafs. He spent three outstanding seasons with the St. John's club, seeing action in 83-games, posting a 71(32-30-9) record, including a solid 23(12-7-4) mark in his rookie season of 2001-02 with a sterling .926 SPCT. In that same season, he earned a promotion to the NHL Toronto club where he saw action in the Maple Leafs goal in single game action against the Detroit Red Wings. He crowned the campaign by being named CHL Goaltender of the Year as he authored a scintillating 17(16-1-0) record in 19-games with Toronto's CHL associate Memphis. Centomo's GAA was a stingy and stellar 2.09 and his SPCT of .934 was also the best in the circuit.

Muskegon's newest team member has also seen service in the ECHL with the Las Vegas Wranglers and the ECHL Long Beach Ice Dogs in 2004-05 and the CHL Oklahoma City Blazers for two seasons in 2005-06 and 2006-07. In 2005-06, he enjoyed even more AHL time with the Manitoba Moose where he saw service in 12-games, registering a record of 10(5-4-1) with an avarice 2.64 GAA and a pair of shutouts.

For his complete professional career, Centomo brings a veritable wealth of experience to his new Lumberjacks team as reflected through his 292-games with 96 of those games in the NHL and AHL combined.

Today's signing of goaltender Sebastien Centomo brings to three the total number of players now under contract for the Lumberjacks 50th Anniversary season.

Feb. 6th - Sabres Looking Forward “We all know we have to play the system better, play smarter,” said Mike Grier. “We’re a little bit uptight; we’re squeezing the sticks a little bit. Guys are thinking too much, not reacting and just playing the game… all those little things are adding up and costing us games right now.”
