The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs would like to thank all of our loyal fans and supporters who came out to the Louisiana Boardwalk Saturday for our first-ever Mudbugs Hockey Fan Fair! The event featured Mudbugs players and staff members playing games, signing autographs and talking hockey with fans as we gear up for the 14th season of Mudbugs hockey in the Ark-La-Tex.

In attendance for the event were past and present Mudbugs players such as forward and alternate captain Travis Clayton, who signed autographed pictures and visited with fans throughout the day.

December Home Date Changed

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced the rescheduling of a December home game against the Tulsa Oilers at the CenturyTel Center.

The Mudbugs vs. Oilers contest originally scheduled for Sunday, December 26 has been moved to Tuesday, October 19 at 6:35 pm. With the change, the ‘Bugs will now begin the season with four of their first five games on home ice, starting with opening night vs. Mississippi on Friday, October 15.

Plume and Harvey Boost Mudbugs Defense

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League improved their defense for the 2010-11 season today with the return of defenseman Clay Plume and the addition of rookie goaltender Jeff Harvey to their roster. The Mudbugs now have five forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders under contract for the coming year.

“We’ve got high hopes for both of these guys this season,” said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. “We traded for ‘Plumer’ last year knowing that he could come in here and improve our D-corps, and I’m very pleased with the job he’s done.

'Bugs Get Their "Cheeze & Krackers" Back

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced two more player signings for the 2010-11 season, returning defenseman Dave Pszenyczny and forward Jeff Kyrzakos to the club.

Pszenyczny (who is called “Cheeze” by some) returns for his third season in purple and teal while Kyrzakos (nicknamed “Krackers”) will skate in his second.
The Mudbugs now have nine players (five forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender) under contract for the coming year.

Join the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs tomorrow at Buffalo Wild Wings as we support “We Believe in Abilea”, a fundraising effort to help the family of 3-year-old Abilea Bounds as she undergoes medical treatments for a rare genetic disorder.

Abilea (pronounced Abby-Lee) suffers from a disorder known as PFIC(Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis), which primarily affects liver function. The condition causes inhibited growth, nutritional deficiencies and extreme itching throughout her body.

Smith, DeCaro Re-Sign in Bossier

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced the signings of their Captain and number-one goaltender for the coming season with the return of forward Brett Smith and goaltender John DeCaro. Both players are longtime Mudbugs fixtures who will look to help lead the team toward its fourth Championship in 2010-11.

“When you’re recruiting in the offseason you want to base your team around two pivotal points: sound goaltending and strong leadership,” Head Coach Scott Muscutt said.

Your team finished strong last season despite many injuries, what did you learn about that team in April?

I could not be more proud of the group of guys that finished the season for our club. They wore the jersey with pride and refused to let excuses stand in the way of giving their best efforts. As a result, we were able to overcome a lot of adversity and come very close to achieving our goals.

'Bugs to Face 'Kings Twice in Preseason

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced their 2010 preseason schedule, which features two road exhibition games against the Mississippi RiverKings in Southaven, Mississippi.

2010 will mark the third consecutive year in which the two rivals have played prior to the start of the regular season. The Mudbugs and RiverKings are set to face off in a pair of preseason bouts during training camp at the DeSoto Civic Center this year.

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced the signing of defenseman Jamie Milam for the 2010-11 season.

Milam emerged as an impact player at both ends of the ice late last season after signing with the ‘Bugs in February. Milam, 26, played the majority of last season in Switzerland before returning to North America and signing with Bossier-Shreveport for the stretch run.

Bugs open season at CTC against Mississippi on Oct. 15

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs open the 66-game 2010-11 Central Hockey League regular season with a home-and-home against Northern Conference rival Mississippi. The season opener will be Oct. 15 at the CenturyTel Center.

Following the opener, the teams will head to DeSoto Civic Center for a Oct. 16 affair. The times for Mudbugs’ home games on Tuesday/Thursday has been changed to 6:35 p.m. this season. Sunday games at the CTC will begin at 4:05 p.m. All other games will begin at 7:05 p.m.

Campbell joins a number of other new hires in a revamped Mudbugs front office for 2010-11.

Jason Campbell once scored two short-handed goals on the same shift to help the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in their pursuit of a second President’s Cup championship. More than 10 years later, the beloved former Mudbug is faced a task at least as challenging off the ice.

Campbell affectionately known as “Soupy” during his seven seasons of action along the Red River, has been named the Mudbugs’ general manager.

No skates required

There are sticks and gloves, two blue lines, a red line and a couple of goals. However, the aspect of hockey many find the trickiest to conquer is missing. The ice. Hockey fans who've always wanted to play the game, but can't skate, don't have access to ice or a pair of blades now have their chance.

Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs coach Scott Muscutt has helped bring the game to the people in the form of ball hockey. Leagues catering to all ages are scrimmaging at House of Wheels in Bossier City on Tuesday and Thursday nights with official play set to begin July 27. Registration is Tuesday.

Travis Clayton Back with Mudbugs for 2010-11

The second-leading scorer in Central Hockey League history will be back in a Mudbugs uniform next season, as center Travis Clayton has signed to play a third year with Bossier-Shreveport. Clayton becomes the first Mudbugs player signed for the coming 2010-11 season.

Clayton, 34, has finished second on the team in scoring in back-to-back seasons and has led Bossier-Shreveport in playoff scoring over the past two years. He returns for a 14th professional season to add to his 820 career CHL games, which are already a league record. Clayton ranks second in CHL history in goals and assists and stands just 50 points away from becoming the league’s all-time leading point producer.

Scott plans to hear the Bugs' fans

Tommy Scott found out there's more to hockey than big hits, crowd-pleasing fights and pretty goals. In one year as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs' owner, he's come to the conclusion that a relationship counselor is more effective than a 50-goal scorer.

Despite a rough first go-round, Scott is prepared to shed some bad luck and apply lessons learned to produce new fans and enrich bonds with Mudbugs diehards.

Mudbugs Recognized at CHL Summer Conference

Two members of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs front office were recognized Saturday night as the Central Hockey League's 15th annual Summer Conference concluded with an awards banquet honoring achievements from the 2009-10 season. Mudbugs play-by-play "voice" Travis Huntington was named CHL Broadcaster of the Year and owners Tommy & Leslie Scott were nominated for the league's Ralph Backs trom Soul of Service award.

Huntington, 27, wins the Broadcaster of the Year nod following his third season on the Bossier-Shreveport airwaves.

Mudbugs To Host Youth Roller Hockey Camp

Looking for a fun way for the kids to pass the time and work on their hockey skills this summer? The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will be hosting a weeklong youth roller hockey camp later this month at the House of Wheels in Bossier City.

The clinic for kids ages 4-16 will feature five days of fun activities and hockey instruction from June 21-25, with an orientation kicking off the camp on Sunday, June 20.
